Thereās a moment after divorce that no one really prepares you forānot the paperwork, not the attorneys, not even the self-help books. I know because I too have lived it

Itās the holidays.
That first Thanksgiving.
That first Christmas Eve or Christmas morning.
The first time you pull out old ornaments or hear a song you used to decorate the tree to⦠and the world feels painfully still.
You didnāt choose this version of the holidays. You didnāt plan to sit quietly in a house that feels both too empty and too loud with emotion. And yet here you areāheart beating, lungs still breathing, trying to figure out how to hold joy and grief in the same season.
Let me tell you something you may not fully believe yetābut tuck it deep in your heart anyway: You are not alone. And this season can still hold beauty.
Maybe your children are with your ex this year. Maybe theyāre with youābut it still feels different. Maybe there are no childrenājust you, a mug of cocoa, and memories that feel heavier than ornaments on a tree.
Take a breath.
This chapter is not the endāitās the beginning of who youāre becoming.
Honoring the Past While Creating New Traditions
You donāt have to erase your history to build a future. You can both honor what was and build something new.
Here are gentle ways to do both:
⨠Carry forward one tradition
Keep one thing that warms your heartāmaybe watching a favorite holiday movie, baking that one recipe your family loves, or hanging a single ornament from ābefore.ā
For me it was playing music from my childhood that we listened to while decorating the tree. It brought back warm feelings of nostalgia and helped take my mind to times that brought joy. This helped me focus on giving me child those same memories despite the weight and pain I carried.
Itās okay to remember. Memories donāt shackle youāthey can soften you.
š Create one new tradition
Let this be the year you ask yourself, āWhat would make me feel alive again?ā
Some soul-wakening ideas:
- Brunch with girlfriends who understand your season
- A cozy cabin weekend with your kids and a board-game marathon
- Pajamas + favorite bakery treats + Christmas movie marathon
- A gratitude walk or fresh-air hike at sunrise
- Sending handwritten cards to other women going through a transition
- Starting a āHope Jarāāwrite down blessings each day through the season
Maybe for the first time⦠you get to choose.
ā¤ļø Choosing Connection Instead of Isolation
This isnāt the year to stay quiet and ābe strong.ā This is the year to let people love you.
Call a friend and plan:
- Friendsgiving
- A holiday craft day with kids
- Cookie swap with neighbors. My child and I did this together!
- Coffee date the morning your kids leave with their dad
- Christmas Eve service + dinner after with a supportive friend or family member
You donāt have to pretend everything is perfect. You just have to show up.
š Remember This: You Are The Creator Of Your Life
Some of you have been living in a cage for yearsāand now that the door is open, you donāt even realize you can fly.
Freedom is quiet at first. It doesnāt always feel like celebrationāit can feel like fear, blank space, uncertainty. But listen closelyā¦
In that stillness is a sacred gift:
You get to rebuild your life exactly the way you want it. No more shrinking. No more tiptoeing. No more giving every part of yourself and praying someone finally sees you.
You are becoming. You are rising. You are stepping into a life that fits the woman you are, not the one you had to be.
This holiday season isnāt just about celebrationāit is a rebirth.
If your heart is whispering, āI need guidance, I need support, I need women who get it,ā ā youāre in the right place.
Because I had to find my way through this alone, Iāve created a free guide.. just for you. Not only is it practical advice but itās supported by research to include clinically proven techniques to help you not only manage, but heal through them.
Letās do the holidays differently this year. Not with dread⦠but with expectation. New traditions. New hope. New freedom.
Because your life didnāt end when your marriage did, beautiful friend.
