A Letter to My 15 Year Old Self

Dear Sweet Girl,

Despite what the world may whisper in your ear, life does not come with a set timeline. There is no single “must happen” checklist that determines your worth or your success. Marriage by a certain age, a picture-perfect career path, children at the “right” time—these are society’s expectations, not the blueprint for your life. And when your journey doesn’t mirror someone else’s, that is not failure. That is freedom.

Your story is yours alone—beautiful, messy, sacred, and one-of-a-kind. It will be full of moments to celebrate, to mourn, to rebuild, to create, to love, and yes, to endure. And it’s in that full range of experience—the ups and the downs—that you will feel most alive.

You will discover peace when you lean into the truth that God has a plan. Rest in that, especially in the hard seasons. People will walk away. Friends may drift. Relationships may end. Let them. Their journey belongs to them, just as yours belongs to you. And nothing—no heartbreak, no rejection, no detour—can interrupt God’s ability to bless you beyond measure.

Never believe the lie that fulfillment comes from trying to be someone else or arranging your life to look a certain way. True peace will only come from living authentically—embracing who you are, and who you are becoming.

That girl in the mirror? Be kind to her. Love her enough to protect her dreams. Don’t hand anyone else the power to shrink her down or dim her light. Train your thoughts to stand on God’s word. When your inner voice tears you down, when it tells you to settle, to hide, to play small—that’s not from God. Replace it. Speak life to yourself. Speak truth.

Hard times will come. Loss, disappointment, even tragedy. But hear me: nothing in this life has the power to rob you of joy unless you surrender it. You are still here. Still breathing. Which means your story isn’t finished—and the best part might not have even begun yet.

So in the lonely nights, when your tears fall heavy and your heart aches for what feels like it may never come—remember this: morning always follows the night. Your broken heart will heal. The right people will love you in the right ways. Tomorrow holds more promise than today’s pain can imagine.

We get one life, baby girl. Make it count. Don’t waste it comparing, doubting, or apologizing for who you are. Life will never be easy—but that’s okay. You were built for the climb. And when you look back one day, you’ll see it all—the valleys and the mountaintops—as the breathtaking, hand-crafted journey that made you who you are.

Live it well.

With love,

Your Older Self
